Removable Dentures

Removable Dentures are tooth replacement prosthetics that are custom made for each recipient, so that they work and look like their natural teeth.

There’s a long history of dentures being used to fill in gaps left by missing teeth, with modern dentures being the most advanced and convenient to care for. Most sets of dentures are made up of replacement teeth being attached to a plastic base that resembles the look of gums.

Many think of dentures as a way to replace all of your teeth, which is true, but partial dentures are also available to fill in the gaps left by just a handful of teeth as well. Many patients often elect for dentures as their tooth replacement option due to them being more affordable than dental implants and also if they don’t qualify as candidates for implants.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I am a candidate for removable dentures?

If you are missing one or more teeth and thinking of getting dentures, you will first need a professional consultation with our AFC dentist experienced in denture placement. During this time, you can explore your tooth prosthetic options, ask questions, and make a decision as to whether dentures are right for you.

What should I expect when being fitted for removable dentures?

Before you can start wearing dentures, your gums must be fully healed from any potential tooth extractions. This process could take a few months depending on how quickly your gums heal. Once they are fully healed, we will take an impression of your gums and supporting bone underneath your gums, and we will use this impression to create a denture in a nearby dental lab.

Will I need to follow any special after-care instructions?

Once your dentures are created and good to go, you can start wearing them on a daily basis. Be sure to expect that there will be an adjustment period, it might take a few weeks to fully adapt to using your new dentures. During this time, you can also expect some soreness and irritation, but this should subside after a few days or a few weeks.
