- Severe, lasting tooth pain
- Lost Filling or Crown
- Partially dislodged or knocked-out tooth
- Chipped or Broken Tooth
- Swelling or tenderness to touch that you believe is related to an infected tooth
If you can validate your experience as an emergency, you should call as soon as possible.
Should I visit the hospital for my dental emergency?
If you have any of the following injuries or traumas involving your face or mouth, you should go to the hospital:
- Jaw Fractures
- Jaw Dislocations
- Serious Cuts or Lacerations to the face and mouth
- An Abscess or Infection that is very swollen or affecting your breathing and/or swallowing
Is it okay to pull a loose tooth myself?
If your child has a loose baby tooth that is bothering them to the point that it is preventing them from eating and/or sleeping it is generally okay to pull it yourself. However, if a tooth has become loose due to trauma or disease, whether it is a baby tooth or an adult tooth it is best to see the dentist to determine the best way to proceed. Taking out a baby tooth too soon can cause major problems with the rest of the teeth as they come in and taking out an adult tooth will impact the health of the rest of the adult teeth significantly in most cases.
