Removable Dentures
Removable dentures are custom-made tooth replacement prosthetics. They work and look like natural teeth. Dentures have a long history of filling gaps left by missing teeth. Modern dentures are the most advanced and convenient to care for. Most denture sets consist of replacement teeth attached to a plastic base resembling gums.
Many people think dentures replace all teeth, which is true. However, partial dentures are also available to fill gaps left by a few missing teeth. Patients often choose dentures as their tooth replacement option due to affordability compared to dental implants. They also choose dentures if they don’t qualify as candidates for implants.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I am a candidate for removable dentures?
If you’re missing one or more teeth, you may be a candidate for dentures. Consult our experienced AFC dentist. During the consultation, you can explore tooth prosthetic options, ask questions, and decide if dentures are right for you.
What should I expect when being fitted for removable dentures?
Your gums must fully heal from any tooth extractions before getting dentures. This process may take a few months, depending on your healing rate. Once healed, we’ll take an impression of your gums and underlying bone. We’ll use this impression to create dentures at a nearby dental lab.
Will I need to follow any special after-care instructions?
Once your dentures are ready, you can wear them daily. Expect an adjustment period of a few weeks to adapt to the new dentures. During this time, you may experience some soreness and irritation, but it should subside within a few days or weeks.
